KPK Opens 2022 With 4 Sting Operations

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) commenced four sting operations early into 2022 and arrested two regents, one mayor, and a district court judge in graft-related activities.

The first arrest took place on January 5, where the anti-graft agency nabbed Bekasi mayor Rahmat Effendi. This was followed by the arrest of North Penajam Paser regent Abdul Gafur Mas’ud on January 12.

January 18 saw an arrest made against Langkat regent Terbit Rencana Perangin Angin. The latest was on January 19 as the KPK arrested Surabaya District Court judge Itong Isnaeni Hidayat.

KPK deputy chairperson Nawawi Pomolango asserted that these sting operations show the agency’s commitment to eradicating corruption. “It shows our serious commitment to eradicating corruption,” Nawawi said at the KPK headquarters on Friday, January 21.

Moreover, he said the agency regrets seeing acts of corruption still flourish among state officials and district judge, which should have become the country’s main pillars to uphold law supremacy and graft eradication.

The KPK deputy also said stakeholders at the legislation, executive, and judicial levels must work in synergy to create an environment that is free from corruption.

“This includes political parties that must be free from corruption too,” says the KPK deputy.
