Govt Urged to Evaluate New Regulation on Old-Age Benefit Funding or JHT

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission overseeing manpower, Saleh Partaonan Daulay, opined that the government should review the Manpower Ministerial Regulation (Permenaker) No. 2 of 2022 concerning the old-age benefit funding (JHT).

“I see Permenaker No. 2/2022 is still very worthy of further public discussion to get input from the community, especially the workers,” said Saleh as quoted from Antara, Monday, Feb. 14.

He said if the results of the public discussion stated that the policy was detrimental to the workers, his side would push for the revocation of the policy. “There must be room for discussion. It is not good if a strategic policy does not involve related parties,” said the National Mandate Party (PAN) politician.

Saleh claimed he had not received clear and complete information about Permenaker No. 2/2022. In a number of meetings with the Manpower Ministry and the Workers Social Security Agency (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan), changes to the mechanism for withdrawing the old-age benefits were not discussed specifically, even comprehensively.

Permenaker 2/2022, he added, must be ensured so as not to harm the workers. To date, he heard a lot of resistance from labor associations and unions.

Permenaker No. 2/2022 sparked public polemic. The new regulation no longer allowed withdrawal of the old-age benefits before age 56. Whereas in the previous regulation, Permenaker 19/2015, workers who resign from employment and those who are fired could access JHT.
