Bank Indonesia Acts Upon Alleged Cyber Attack

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Bank Indonesia (BI) head of communication Erwin Haryono said the central bank has acted on the ransomware attack attempt that allegedly breached the Bank’s cyberinfrastructure last month.

“BI has conducted a recovery attempt along with an audit and mitigation to prevent a similar attack from recurring,” said Haryono in an online media briefing in Jakarta, January 20, Antaranews reported.

The mitigations include formulating a standard policy and cyber resilience that can strengthen the existing security and prevent such ransomware attacks in the future.

Erwin also said the bank is developing and strengthening its technology and cyber security infrastructure. BI has also established partnerships and coordinated with multiple parties to prevent future recurrences.

In addition, the central bank has conducted an overall assessment of the attack, starting with thousands of employees in all offices in December 2021.

“This hacking attempt made us realize that cyber attacks are real,” he said.

However, he made sure that Bank Indonesia’s operations and services are not affected by this incident.

The alleged cyberattack was reported by the Twitter account @darktracer_int, which is an intelligence platform. The account, on its Twitter post, warned that the Conti Ransomware group announced Bank Indonesia in the list of victims.
