Sumba Island Listed for Sale Online; NTT Govt Reacts

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Kupang – Sumba Island located in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) was reportedly listed for sale on www.privateislandsonline.com, an international real estate website specialized in island properties.

The Regional Secretariat’s Public Relations Bureau Head, Marius Jelamu, asserted that his side had no plan to sell islands in the region as they are the territory of the state’s sovereignty.

“It is impossible for the NTT government to sell the island. If it is leased for investment purposes, it will be allowed because there are rules on it. However, it is impossible for sale,” said Marius on Wednesday, February 10.

He said he had asked the Regional Police to trace the information and the Ministry of Communication and Information to check the online site which listed several NTT islands for sale.

“The site has incited provocations that have disturbed the psychology of the community. It must be investigated and processed in accordance with the applicable laws,” Marius underlined.

The NTT Police Chief Insp. Gen. Lotharia Latif said his side was investigating the online site. “We have investigated and coordinated with the local government to check the truth of the news,” he said.

According to him, based on the results of the coordination of the NTT Police with several agencies, the sale of Sumba Island was a hoax. “We conclude that it is fake news,” Lotharia confirmed.
