Record-high COVID-19 Daily Cases in Jakarta Explained

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria gave an official response regarding Jakarta’s record-high daily new cases that were reported on Tuesday, June 9, which saw 234 positive COVID-19 cases.

According to the deputy, 40 of those cases are an accumulation of the team’s findings 10-days prior while another 110 cases are results from contact tracing efforts done by a number of public health centers. These claims suggest that the rest of the cases not mentioned above are the actual daily cases.

“We have new cases, but we also have cases from accumulation for the past 10-days, there are also those obtained through contact tracing,” said Riza Patria in an online discussion yesterday.

He also implied that the confirmed cases are in line with the increased tests done by the health agency as up to this moment, the Jakarta administration had conducted 171,000 swab tests.

“So, in all honesty, there will be increased numbers of COVID-19 cases as our ability to conduct tests improves also,” said Patria.

Just one day prior, the Jakarta administration’s COVID-19 counter recorded 234 new daily cases, which is the highest ever recorded since President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo announced Indonesia’s first confirmed case back on March 2, 2020.

The record-high daily cases come after the Jakarta administration imposed a transitional period between the PSBB social restriction and the upcoming ‘new normal’ phase.
