Police Foil Major Drug Smuggling by International Syndicate

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The National Police Criminal Investigation Department has foiled a major drug smuggling attempt driven by an international criminal syndicate from the Middle East, Malaysia, and Aceh. 

The authorities reportedly confiscated 353 kilograms of crystal meth and arrested 11 people believed to be involved in the crime. One of them is a prisoner in Aceh’s Lhokseumawe correctional institute who acts as the mastermind. 

The case started when the police received reports from people stating that, “There would be a major smuggling attempt using fishing boats from Malaysia to the waters of Bireuen, Aceh,” said Police Brigadier General Krisno Halomoan Siregar on February 11.

According to his statement today, the National Police, along with Aceh Police conducted an investigation for one month prior to the drug smuggling attempt. The aurthorities reported that the suspects initially attempted to flee a boat filled with 343 drug-filled plastic containers as police were about to capture it.
