Floods swamp four villages in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan

Putussibau, West Kalimantan – 4 villages in Kalis Sub-district, Kapuas Hulu District, West Kalimantan Province, were immersed in waters reaching heights of up to 1.5 meters, according to Gunawan, head of the Kapuas Hulu Regional Disaster Mitigation Office (BPBD).

” Floods immersed 4 towns in Kalis Sub-district.

The four flood-affected towns were Nanga Tubuk, Nanga Danau, Rantau Kalis, and Bahenap, he noted.

The floodwaters began to increase at around 7 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesian Basic Time), Sunday, and receded on Monday early morning.

” The Kapuas Hulu BPBD team has examined the flood areas and collaborated with the sub-district for mitigation efforts. The floodwaters are slowly declining at present,” Gunawan mentioned.

The regional villagers are urged to stay watchful, as rains are forecast in the coming days.

” Until now, we have not been able to determine the effect of the flood,” Gunawan stated.

” We urge the town chiefs and sub-district heads to be proactive in reporting about natural catastrophes, particularly the current floods, so that we can instantly take steps,” he mentioned.
