Jakarta. Foreign visitors aren t most likely to be prosecuted under the cohabitation and extramarital sex short articles of the newly-enacted Crook Code, a Justice Ministry official stated on Monday.
The Crook Code brings a sentence of one year in prison for sexual relationships outside of marital relationship and 6 months’ imprisonment for cohabitation.
However, those offenses can not be prosecuted without a complaint from members of the extended family, according to Edward Hiariej, a deputy for the justice minister.
Edward stated those short articles are adopted in the Indonesian method to ensure the observance of the nation s worths and customs without the intention to criminalize visitors.
[Foreign] tourists can not be charged with these articles, Edward told a press conference.
He explained that when a single couple concerns Indonesia for a vacation, only instant family members such as the parents or their children can make a complaint. To do so, they must come to Indonesia.
A similar requirement applies to the post on extramarital sex which requires a complaint from member of the family such as the partner or the children.
