New Rp75,000 Banknote; Bank Indonesia Evaluates Exchange Process

IDNEWSNOW.COM, JakartaBank Indonesia (BI) is reviewing the exchange process of a new Rp75,000 banknote as people showed high interest in the new bill, which was issued to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day on August 17.

“We are now evaluating and will announce a better method of the money exchange so this will increase people’s chances to get an order slot,” said BI’s Communication Department Head Onny Widjanarko in a short message on Friday, August 21.

The process of the exchange is still limited in BI’s central office and representative offices throughout the country. People are first required to register via the Pintar application. For the first stage, Bank Indonesia does not yet open the exchange process at private banks.

The first stage was planned to take place from August 18 to September 30, 2020. After that initial period, the exchange can be done at five other commercial banks, namely Bank Mandiri, BNI, BRI, BCA, and CIMB Niaga.

Onny explained that the exchange process had taken place three days after the special banknote was officially issued. “The process has been running for three days from August 18-20, but it was then closed due to holidays and collective leaves,” he added.
