Yogyakarta Loosening Covid-19 Restrictions Despite High Fatality Rate

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Governor of Yogyakarta Special Region, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, on Wednesday presented a brief statistic of the city which has seen a slackened public activity restriction (PPKM) from the previous level 4 to the current level 3.

“Yogyakarta’s recovery rate is currently 91.37 percent but the mortality rate remains quite high with 3.28 percent,” said the governor on September 8.

The city’s Covid-19 task force logged a total confirmed death rate of 5,000 (as of September 8) since the coronavirus was detected in Yogyakarta in March of 2020. Meanwhile, the daily positivity rate is at 4.42 percent.

Sri Sultan said that therefore, they are focused on accelerating the mass vaccination program that aims to inoculate 80 percent of the region’s population in order to reach herd immunity. He ensured that this can be reached before September ends.

“There are now 62.43 percent of Yogyakarta residents who received their first vaccine dose and 27.41 percent second dose recipients,” he said.

The Covid-19 mitigation task force spokesperson Berty Murtiningsih said that in the past three days from September 6 to 8, the number of confirmed deaths caused by the virus had been fluctuating.
