Year-end Holidays and COVID-19 Infection Rate; Govt to Prioritize Public Safety

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The government spokesperson for the handling of COVID-19, Wiku Adisasmito, said the government will prioritize public safety ahead of the national holidays in December. The fear of turning national holidays into opportunities to help spread the virus has emerged again following past national holidays amidst the pandemic.

“People need to know that the decisions taken by the government will always have public safety in mind amid the pandemic,” said Wiku in a press conference on Thursday, November 26.

The task force stated that the holidays of Eid al-Fitr, the national independence day, and the national holidays by the end of October had sparked growth in coronavirus infection rate.

Wiku Adisasmito asserted that the government will attempt to suppress infection rates down to a controllable number. He also asked businesses to understand why the government will try to restrict people’s mobility, despite being in an economic meltdown.

“The policies that will be introduced have considered every aspect, including the tourism sector,” said the COVID-19 task force spokesman.
