New Normal; Minister Warns of Second Wave of COVID-19 Infection

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said the government was continuously anticipating the emergence of the second wave of coronavirus or COVID-19 infection, considering that in the new normal era, people would still have to deal with the virus threat.

“In line with the President’s mandate, we must stay vigilant because the COVID-19 threat still exists. So there must be efforts to prevent the occurrence of the second wave,” said Budi Karya in a video recording aired in a virtual discussion with Media Indonesia on Friday, June 12.

The Transportation Ministry, he added, had drafted security protocols for public and private transportation in the land, sea, and air sectors. The policy was noted in the ministerial regulation No. 41/2020, an amendment to the ministerial regulation No. 18/2020.

The policy stipulated that the ministry would grant rooms for public mobility while still enforcing restrictions and certain requirements. According to Budi, the government was planning to resume transportation services to support the community to stay productive.

However, the reopening of mass transports must be carried out carefully and safely. “Therefore, we create a technical guidance for each transportation mode,” the minister added.

He hoped that later in the new normal era, the transportation sector would support the country’s economic recovery. “So by enforcing the new normal policy, the ministry shows its support from various aspects,” Budi Karya said.
