Students Rallying at KPK HQ Receive Online Threats

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – A number of students, members of the National Association of University Student Executive Bodies (BEM SI), received online threats shortly after joining a rally before the Corruption Eradication or KPK Building in Jakarta today, September 27.

Isam, one of the students, claimed he received a message from an unknown number during the demonstration reading, “Don’t cry if you are arrested, little boy”. “Some of my friends also got threatened,” said the student of Jenderal Soedirman University who was met around the KPK Building today.

Isam said his friend received different threats. He recalled that his friend got a Whatsapp chat containing a screenshot photo of a conversation in Whatsapp group in which students coordinated to stage the rally. “Just for your information, students,” it said.

Isam also claimed his friends’ messaging apps were hacked and doxed on social media. However, he stopped short of elaborating the hacking and doxing.

Other than the students, the Whatsapp and Telegram accounts of eight KPK employees who did not pass the civic knowledge test (TWK) were hacked at virtually the same time.

Students from BEM SI staged a demonstration near the KPK building from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. today, demanding President Jokowi reverse the KPK’s decision and cancel the dismissal of 57 KPK employees who did not pass the TWK.
