Sri Mulyani Hopes Halal Certification Won’t Be New Burden for Industry

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati hoped that policies and mechanisms which are aimed at improving the certification of halal products could run efficiently and would not become a new burden for the industry.

She expected researchers of the Islamic economy and finance to produce legal guarantees without causing lower spending.

“Without decreasing the competitiveness, cost structure, and the liabilities, halal certification can provide assurance,” said Sri in her opening speech in the Sharia Economic and Financial Research Forum (FREKS) on Monday, September 21, 2020.

According to her, the application of technology with halal principles would be the answer to the development of the halal product industry in Indonesia. “This should be addressed by our researchers,” Sri added.

The former managing director at the World Bank asserted that technology could help the development of sharia economy and finance. Thus, policies and institutions must be studied.

“So that we can be the center of a halal industry that is efficient, innovative, and productive, and also competitive,” Sri Mulyani said.
