IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Senior economist of Indef (Institute For Development of Economics and Finance) Didik J. Rachbini on Thursday argues that the growing debts by the government led by President Jokowi will cause future problems if not handled properly.
He said that the debts have significantly increased during this term’s presidency.
“Every year in the future Indonesia will have to pay out debt of roughly Rp1,000 trillion, this is 1,500 percent of our budget for education,” said Didik to Bisnis.com on Thursday.
He said that out of Indonesia’s debts in 2019 that reached Rp921 trillion, Rp275 trillion is to pay the interests and Rp475 trillion is to pay the principal debt. Compared with the previous presidency led by Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), he said Indonesia’s debts were only slightly above Rp500 trillion.
The Indef senior economist then said that future Indonesian presidents will be burdened by the large amount of debts inherited by the current government. “Whoever will be president, they will be consumed by debts,” said Didik.
