IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Maluku Police Chief on Wednesday mobilized a platoon of police mobile brigade (Brimob) members to Haruku Island in Central Maluku following a deadly riot that broke out on Tuesday, January 25.

Maluku Police spokesperson senior commissioner M. Rum Ohoirat said the added security force had to be mobilized after another riot happened this morning, Jan. 26.

“Unfortunately, there was a riot again this morning as masses gathered and attacked again,” said the police.

The riot was reportedly sparked by the conflict between residents of two villages in the Haruku Island; Ori and Kariuw villagers. The presence of Brimob officers is mainly to secure the region and prevent another riot.

The riots in the past two days injured three people and killed two others, one of which is a police officer.

The police spokesperson said residents of the two villages have clashed previously sparked by land-related conflicts. Following the Tuesday riot, law enforcers and army personnel were immediately mobilized to mediate the conflict between the two village residents.
