Palace Asserts No Relation with Buzzers Slandering Bintang Emon

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – An expert staffer of the Political Communication Deputy at the Presidential Office (KSP), Donny Gahral Adian, asserted that the palace has no relation with social media accounts, known as online paid commenters or buzzers, that slandered a comedian Bintang Emon.

“Whatever the buzzers’ affiliations, there is no correlation with the government,” Donny told reporters today, June 16.

A number of Twitter accounts slandered the rising comedian whose real name Gusti Muhammad Abdurrahman Bintang Mahaputra of being a drug addict.

The attacks occurred a day after the comedian posted a satirical video of him criticizing the light sentence given by prosecutors to two defendants of the assault case against the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan.

According to Donny, the government has no problem with the criticism as it was a freedom of expression that must be respected.

“What Bintang Emon says is his right, [it is his right] to give opinions. It must not be constrained or restricted,” he said.

Donny then called on the public to report the so-called buzzers if they were considered to have been disturbing and threatening the public order. However, the report could only be submitted if they are suspected of violating the law.
