Budi Karya Optimistic Covid-19 Pandemic Will End in September

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi is optimistic that there won’t be a second wave of the Covid-19 outbreak in Indonesia, and this ongoing pandemic will end in September.

“In the transportation sector, we consider health as the commander. We don’t imagine that Beijing deals with a second wave now. We don’t want it [to occur in Indonesia]. Pak President says that we can just have the first wave and complete it in September, inshallah,” said Budi Karya in an online discussion in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 16.

Budi Karya conveyed President Jokowi’s message that the public and all elements must not be dragged by the pandemic. “On one hand, our health must be maintained, but we have other mandates, other tasks, that we have to survive. We must not lie helpless,” he underlined.

Currently, he added, the country has entered into an adaptation of a new normal era.

“We have entered an era dubbed a new adaptation, that we never think of, we never conduct the feasibility study, and there is never a justification for what we must do. But we must do that. So, we must endorse and monitor this new adaptation together,” Budi Karya added.

He went on to say that the declining occupancy of the transportation modes was also attributable to the drop in revenue. Therefore, the minister said his side was deliberating the tariff affairs with the Covid-19 task force.

The success key to combat the Covid-19, Budi Karya continued, also depends on the public’s compliance and discipline rate.
