Omnibus Law Will Boost Speed of Work and Innovation, Says Jokowi

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo talked about the omnibus law during his speech at the National Corruption Prevention Act event today, August 26. He claimed the omnibus bill is part of efforts to reform regulations in order to create productive, accountable, and graft-free governance.

“We are making a tradition by issuing omnibus law, one policy that synchronizes dozens of regulations simultaneously so that they can harmoniously provide legal certainty, boost the speed of the work and innovation that are accountable and free of corruption,” he said.

The omnibus bill, he added, is a solution to solve regulatory affairs that he considered overlapped, complex, and unsynchronized.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students and workers continued to voice their objections to the omnibus law on job creation. The recent protest held on August 25, was staged before the House of Representatives (DPR) building and the Coordinating Ministry for Economy office.

Protestors threatened to hold a bigger demonstration if the DPR and the government insisted to ratify the bill on job creation.

The Confederation of Indonesian Workers Union (KSPI) previously agreed to establish a team to formulate the bill along with the DPR in a bid to accommodate workers’ opinions. This was because the omnibus law deliberated by the government did not favor workers’ interest but was beneficial for employers.
