Situbondo Regent Dies after Contracting Covid-19

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Regent of Situbondo in East Java, Dadang Wigiarto, reportedly passed away after getting infected with Covid-19. Dadang caught his last breath at the Dr. Abdoer Rahem Regional Hospital in the regency, Thursday afternoon, November 26, 2020.

“We ask for prayers to all residents of Situbondo, I hope he died husnul khotimah (with blessings ahead),” said Situbondo Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Chairman Edy Wahyudi.

Dadang was confirmed positive for the disease and had been under medical treatment since November 24, 2020, at the referral hospital for the coronavirus disease in the regency.

Since the regent, who had reigned for two periods, tested positive for the virus, the Situbondo Covid-19 task force sterilized the regency’s hall and the regent’s office space.

Situbondo Health Agency acting head Akhmad Yulianto said that based on the close contact tracing related to the regent, 28 officials and staffers in the regency government had also undergone swab tests.

Yulianto said that the Covid-19 mitigation task force had carried out swab tests on nine other people who lived in the Situbondo’s hall, including the regent’s wife, Umi Kulsum. “The swab test result of Ibu Umi comes back negative,” he added.
