IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Muhammadiyah Secretary-General, Abdul Mu’ti, said that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo would not issue a government regulation in lieu of law that would revoke the newly-enacted Job Creation Law.
“But (the President) welcomes inputs from various parties, including the possibility of revising the problematic material on the Job Creation Law,” Mu’ti said in a written statement on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.
One of the country’s two largest Islamic organizations previously met with President Joko Widodo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta.
Also present at the meeting were Muhammadiyah chairman Haedar Nashir and Muhammadiyah Law and Human Rights Council chairman Sutrisno Raharjo. Meanwhile, the President was accompanied by State Secretary Pratikno and the Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto.
Mu’ti said the President admitted that there was a lack of political communication between the government and the community regarding the omnibus law and that needed to be improved. “Muhammadiyah submits notes and inputs directly to the President,” Mu’ti added.
To calm and improve the situation, he said, Muhammadiyah suggested the President postpone the implementation of the Job Creation Law in accordance with the applicable regulations.
Mu’ti recalled that the implementation of several laws had been postponed due to various reasons, such as the government’s readiness and public rejection. “President Jokowi said he will examine it carefully,” he said.
