Moderna Vaccine Shots Prioritized for Three Groups, Says Health Ministry

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The Health Ministry on Friday asserted that the current supply of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine was mainly prioritized for the vaccination of healthcare workers and the general population who had not been inoculated.

The ministry’s COVID-19 vaccination spokesperson, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said the government must be able to guarantee that the Moderna batch would not be misdirected as it would subject pregnant women and people suffering from comorbidities and “those who have never been vaccinated,” said Tarmizi in a statement on Friday, August 13.

As of today, the Indonesian government has received a shipment of eight million Moderna vaccine doses from the COVAX facility.

The spike in coronavirus cases pushed the government to provide extra protection for healthcare workers who were at risk of being exposed to the coronavirus.

The third jabs or vaccine booster shots for healthcare workers have been approved by the Indonesian Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (ITAGI) and the recommendation is solely based on the group’s study.
