Ministry Emits Recommendation on Eid al-Adha Qurban amid Pandemic

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture has issued a recommendation related to the slaughter of sacrificial animals or qurban for this year’s Eid al-Adha amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The recommendation was noted in a circular No. 0008/SE/PK.320/F/06/2020 on the establishment of qurban amid the non-natural disaster Covid-19 pandemic, in which the ministry asserted the event must be held under predetermined health protocols.

“The Agriculture Ministry also provides recommendations on the safe trade and slaughter of sacrificial animals from Covid-19,” as quoted from the press release received by Tempo on Tuesday, June 23.

The ministry underlined the importance of risk mitigation towards qurban activities, such as during the buying and selling of sacrificial animals and the slaughtering. People involved in the events are obliged to practice physical distancing, maintain personal hygiene, conduct initial health checks, and maintain cleanliness and sanitation.

Meanwhile, the qurban activities require guidance and monitoring from the government, regional agriculture agency, and other related institutions. The community and religious organizations are expected to coordinate with health and religious affairs institutions during the event.
