KSPI Warns Jokowi: International Labor Unions Highlight Job Creation Law

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Indonesian Workers Union Confederation (KSPI) said international labor organizations supported its struggle against Law No. 11/2020 or Job Creation Law.

The KSPI president Said Iqbal warned President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, the House of Representatives, business players, and the Constitutional Court of the matter.

According to Iqbal, international labor unions would stage campaigns criticizing the omnibus law which was considered detrimental to workers. He reminded that this global campaign could make the law ineffective in the country.

“We appeal to business actors, Mr. President whom we respect, the DPR, and especially the judges of the Constitutional Court, to be careful. International communities are highlighting this law, and in the end, it can be ineffective,” said Iqbal at an online press conference today, December 15, 2020.

The international groups supporting the KSPI included the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) which is based in Brussels, Belgium, Geneva-based IndustriALL, and many other global trade unions.

According to Iqbal, ITUC had sent a letter to President Jokowi and the DPR noting the support for the workers’ struggle demanding the revocation of the Job Creation Law.

“The campaign will be widespread, an international campaign is being worked and driven by ITUC and IndustriALL,” said Iqbal.
