KRI Nanggala; Scholarships Offered to the Children of the Perished Navy Sailors

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The Surabaya Administration announced that it is preparing academic scholarships for the children of the navy sailors who perished aboard the KRI Nanggala naval submarine, which had sunken to the bottom of the Bali strait 838 meters below the ocean surface. 

“The scholarships are the Surabaya administration’s appreciation,” said Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi on Monday, April 26. “Even though this is incomparable to the dedication and services of the brave men who guarded our sea till the end.”

The mayor said he had visited the families left by the naval submarine crews and acknowledged that around nine of the sailors are registered residents in Surabaya. Apart from the scholarships, the government continues to provide psychological counseling for victims’ families. 

He asserts that the KRI Nanggala crewmen are true examples for Surabaya’s younger generation in terms of dedication and devotion for the nation “We must take example of their dedication,” said the mayor.
