KPK Investigator: Harun Masiku Is In Indonesia

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator Ronald Sinyal who handled the search for Harun Masiku said the graft fugitive is probably in Indonesia. Ronald received information that Harun had returned here since his travel ban was lifted in January. “I believe he is in Indonesia,” Ronald said on Sunday, September 5.

Ronald, however, could not continue the search as his status was deactivated. Along with 56 other KPK employees, he may no longer work at the anti-graft body beginning October 30, 2021, because they were declared failed in the civic knowledge test.

KPK Deputy for Enforcement Karyoto said his side had detected Harun’s presence abroad. According to him, efforts to arrest the latter were hindered by the Covid-19 pandemic. “Because he is not in the country. We are also confused about going there,” said Karyoto on Tuesday, August 24.

Karyoto said he had obtained permission to detain Harun Masiku. “I am very eager to catch him. At that time, the chairman had issued the order, but there was no opportunity yet,” he claimed.

Harun escaped the KPK’s sting operation in which the General Elections Commission commissioner Wahyu Setiawan was apprehended in January 2020. Harun and his colleague from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Saiful Bahri, were suspected of bribing Wahyu to get Harun to the DPR through inter-idnewsnowral changes. Since then, his whereabouts were unknown.

The KPK then asked for a travel ban to the Immigration for six months, which was extended for another six months and ended last January. The ban could not be extended again because it could only last for 12 months. Recently, the KPK asked Interpol for assistance to name Harun on the red notice list.

The KPK investigator who was also deactivated through the civic knowledge test, Harun Al Rasyid, also claimed he knew Harun’s whereabouts. “If my status is active, I will drag Harun Masiku down,” he said on Thursday, September 2.
