KAMI Says Govt Unable to Contain Pandemic and Economic Recession

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Save Indonesia Coalition (KAMI) expressed concern over the government’s inability to contain the Covid-19 pandemic and economic recession.

“The pandemic has not yet subsided as of November. There is not even a sign that it will end,” said KAMI Presidium Rochmat Wahab in a webinar on Thursday, November 26, 2020.

Rochmat said the government did not implement Law No. 6/2020 on Health Quarantine consequently, particularly no government regulation on the policy was issued. The government seemed to have no clear and systematic action plan.

“The government shows overlapping work procedures and weak crisis management. They do not seriously prioritize efforts to overcome health issues as they focus on the economic stimulus,” he added.

KAMI Presidium further slammed the government for not anticipating economic recession because they did not encourage potential economic self-reliance, did not carry out efficiency, and reschedule or cancel infrastructure programs. “But rather increase foreign debts,” Rochmat said.

According to him, the government did not have a sense of a crisis by drafting several bills that are not urgent and based on the people aspirations, such as the Mineral and Coal Mining bill (UU Minerba), Perpu No. 1/2020, Job Creation Law, Pancasila Ideology Guidelines bill (RUU HIP), and Pancasila Ideology Education Agency bill (RUU BPIP).
