Jokowi Says Manufacturing and Other Economic Indicators See Growth

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko Jokowi Widodo announced several of Indonesia’s economic indicators. According to him, the country’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), public consumption, and exports have started to grow.

However, he asserted that hard work is still needed to prevent a recession in the third quarter of 2020.

“The Purchasing Managers’ Index has returned to around 50. This means it is already in a normal position. The value of tax has begun to rise too, although it has not reached a normal position yet,” said the president during a meeting with regional heads at Bogor Palace, Tuesday, Sept. 1.

However, he reminded the importance of implementing the health protocols against Covid-19 in every public activity. All governors are demanded to maintain the balance of policies on public health and economic recovery.

“Because if we cannot suppress the Covid-19 curve immediately, let alone if we cannot drop the case fatality rate sharply and increase the recovery rate drastically, uncertainty conditions will resume,” the state head underlined.

Jokowi also asked local governments to provide a sense of safety to the public so that productive activities, including the manufacturing industry, could run further.
