Jokowi Highlights High Covid-19 Cases in East Java

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo highlighted the hike in new Covid-19 cases in East Java Province. According to him, one of the factors that increase the number of patients is that people ignore the predetermined health protocols.

“The task force states that 70 percent of the public do not wear face masks. This is a large number,” said the President during his visit to Surabaya, East Java, today, June 25.

He asserted the importance of public awareness of the implementation of Covid-19 health protocols. All residents, he added, must realize that Indonesia is under the health and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The state head also demanded Indonesian people and officials share the same feeling that the country is under crisis amid the pandemic. “We need to share the same feeling that Indonesia still has a problem, which is Covid-19.”

He then ordered the immediate distribution of face masks to East Java. “I ask the national Covid-19 task force and the Health Minister today to send as many face masks as possible to Surabaya, East Java,” he said.

Jokowi opined that a small act of wearing face masks is crucial in containing the Covid-19 pandemic. This is as important as the implementation of other protocols, including keeping a physical distancing and washing hands after any activities.
