Jakartans Support Anies Baswedan’s Decision on PSBB Reimposition

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Jakarta residents conveyed their support towards Governor Anies Baswedan on the reimposition of the large-scale social restriction or PSBB beginning Monday, September 14, 2020.

A seller of medical devices at Pramuka Market, Andora, supports the re-enforcement of the PSBB in the capital city. According to him, the current restriction could increase the security and the public discipline while at the same time, providing spaces for daily workers to earn a living.

“As a trader, I support it. If people do not maintain physical distancing or wear face masks, I will just scold them,” Andora told Tempo at Pramuka Market, East Jakarta, Monday, September 14, 2020.

Abdul, an online motorcycle taxi driver in Matraman, expressed his relief that the current PSBB allowed online ojek drivers to serve passengers, allowing him to earn half of the usual income.

Alhamdulillah, I can still serve passengers. Normally I get 20 passengers, now it is only nine. Regarding virus spread, I can assure that I wear face masks, passengers must do so as well. If they do not wear one, I can cancel [their ride bookings],” said Abdul.

Unlike the previous PSBB, online ojek services are permitted to operate under the health protocols. Offices of 11 essential sectors exempted from the policy. Markets and shopping centers selling staple foods and daily necessities can still operate at 50 percent of maximum capacity.

Meanwhile, other workplaces, both private and state-owned ones, are allowed to run at 25 percent of their normal capacity during the PSBB.
