IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – A new record was broken by a fundraising movement for teachers through sports: 3,001 runners, fast walkers, cyclists covered the accumulated distance of 424,398 kilometers (km) over 31 days. This is the equivalent of 10.6 times going around the earth. Taking place for 31 days in December 2020, the Lari dan Gowes Caritas Christmas Cross Challenge 2020 (LG4C) run and ride movement managed to collect a donation of Rp 6,114,950,000.

All of the donations were donated to underprivileged honorarium teachers outside Java. The Indonesian Jesuit Alumni Association (AAJI) together with the KARINA-KWI Foundation, the KWI Education Commission and the Jakarta Archdiocese Archdiocese’s Daya Dharma Institute (LDD-KAJ) initiated this movement in Indonesia and 17 countries in Europe, America, Asia, and the Middle East.

In the briefing to the media team on Saturday, January 16, 2021 following the official closing of this program, Christiano Hendra Wishaka, Chair of the LG4C Organizing Committee stated: “We are grateful to God and thank the 3,001 runners, pedestrians, cyclists, and all generous people for participating their maximum, “said Hendra. “The enthusiasm for real sharing through LG4C is very encouraging and raises optimism amid the hardships of the pandemic,” continued Hendra.

The KARINA Foundation – a humanitarian organization under the umbrella of the Indonesian Bishops’ Conference (KWI) – manages the distribution of donations. This foundation runs the Education Assistance Program with the KWI Education Commission and the KWI Socio-Economic Development Commission.

In a conversation with the LG4C media team, the Executive Director of the KARINA – KWI Foundation, Dr. Fredy Rante Taruk Pr., said the donation will be distributed quickly and precisely. The disbursement report will be published in stages until December 2021. “The main donation was given to around 2,000 teachers with underprivileged salaries. The rest is channeled for repairing damaged schools in 27 provinces of Indonesia,” said Fredy.
