Jakarta Inflation Rate at 0.02% in September 2020, BPS Announces

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported on Thursday, October 1, that the inflation rate in the capital city was increased to 0.02 percent in September 2020 compared to the previous month which posted deflation at minus 0.1 percent.

“In month-on-month inflation rate in September, we recorded an increase compared to August that saw deflation at minus 0.1 percent,” said the Jakarta BPS Head, Buyung Airlangga, in a virtual press conference on Thursday, October 1, 2020.

Buyung explained that the inflation rate in Jakarta throughout September 2020 was followed by the condition of the neighboring cities. The data showed that two cities also saw inflation, namely Bogor at 0.11 percent and Depok at 0.02 percent. Two other cities, meanwhile, posted deflation, Tangerang with minus 0.07 percent and Bekasi with minus 0.03 percent.

The agency further announced a decline in the year-on-year inflation rate. In September 2019, Jakarta recorded a 1.76 percent inflation rate. Besides, from December 2019 to September 2020, the rate was 1.05 percent. 

Buyung said that Jakarta was in the 31st position of 34 cities experiencing inflation. The BPS surveyed 90 cities with 56 of them posted deflation.
