Jakarta Formula E May be Held in 2023, Says Jakpro

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Corporate Secretary of Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), Hani Sumarno, said her company was still uncertain about the exact schedule for Formula E in Jakarta. According to her, the establishment of the electric car race was waiting for the economy to recover after the Covid-19 pandemic is over.

“Perhaps, it will even be held in 2023,” said Hani to Tempo on Tuesday, June 22. Based on the event calendar, the world’s eco-friendly race for electric cars in the capital city would kick off in 2022.

Jakpro, as the organizing committee, has not received any certainty over the event schedule since the world is still striving to contain the new coronavirus disease.

If the race is postponed until 2022, Hani added, the paid commitment fee would not be forfeited. “This is a force majeure situation. The fund will not be forfeited despite the event being delayed. In business, ethics and culture are also applied,” she remarked.

Hani reiterated that the electric car race competition was held under a strict agreement and quite long stages. Due to extraordinary events, the organizing committee would also adjust the readiness in each country. If there is an amended agreement, it must be done in consideration of many aspects.

Previously, Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission E chairman Iman Satria suggested the city government cancel Formula E in the capital and ask for a withdrawal of the paid commitment fee.
