Indonesia to Sanction Provinces with Low Vaccination Rate

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Indonesian Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian will impose sanctions against provinces with Covid-19 vaccination rates listed below the 70- percent target by the end of 2021.

” Provinces that fail to reach the target will be alerted verbally and given a disincentive as sanctions; they will not get additional reward funds,” Tito said in a written statement on Friday, December 17, 2021.

On the other hand, provinces that was successful in reaching the vaccination rate target will be proposed to the Ministry of Financing for extra Regional Incentive Funds and General Allocation Funds.

Among the provinces with below average vaccination rates– inoculating less than 70 percent of the population with the first dosage– is West Sumatra. Minister Tito visited the province on Friday, December 18, 2021, to learn firsthand what the challenges are.
