IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Religious Affairs Ministry has declared that the first day of fasting for the holy month of Ramadan 2021 falls on Tuesday, April 13, 2021.
Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas said this decision was taken during the Isbat or confirmation meeting attended by Islamic organizations and representatives of neighboring countries. “Without any difference, the first day of Ramadan falls on Tuesday, April 13, 2021,” said Yaqut.
The meeting was divided into three sessions. The first session began with the presentation of the new moon position by members of the ministry’s Falakiyah Team. The ministry had established a total of 86 hilal or crescent monitoring posts—to observe the first crescent moon or rukyatul hilal—across 34 provinces in Indonesia.
The second session was held behind closed doors. The meeting was attended by representatives of the House’s Commission VIII, the Supreme Court, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (LAPAN), the Geospatial Information Agency (BIG), Bosscha Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Planetarium officials, experts from Islamic Organizations, Echelon I and II officials of the ministry, and the ministry’s Hisab and Rukyat Team. A number of representatives of Islamic organizations, as well as ambassadors from neighboring countries, were also present.
The third session was a press conference on the results of the meeting on the first day of Ramadan held by the Religious Affairs Minister and broadcasted on TVRI, RRI, and the ministry’s social media.
