House Revokes Education, Press Cluster Laws from Omnibus Draft Bill

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Head of the House of Representatives (DPR) legislation board, Supratman Andi Agtas, confirmed that legislators have decided to revoke the education and press cluster laws from the omnibus job creation draft bill – a bill that has sparked widespread protests from members of the public after the cluster law on employment.

“The government has been generous to revoke the education and press cluster laws from the bill on job creation,” said Supratman in the house meeting on Monday, September 28.

He also expressed gratitude for the role of the bill’s working committee that has pressed the government to revoke the clusters which comprise Ferdiansyah (Golkar faction), Ali Taher (PAN), Achmad Baedowi dan Syamsurizal (PPP), Ledia Hanifa Amaliah (PKS), serta Andreas Eddy Susetyo and Sturman Panjaitan (PDIP).

After accommodating reactions from the public, the Education and Culture Ministry previously suggested the cluster laws on higher education, teachers and college lecturers, and medical education, to be revoked from the draft bill.

However, Supratman said the team had tried their hardest to argue against the employment cluster law to have it removed from the draft bill with no avail.

“The dynamic was overwhelming. The tension we faced was extraordinary,” said head of the DPR legislation board.
