Ahok Sheds Light on Premium Gasoline Removal in 2021

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok, who is the Chief Commissioner of state-owned gas and oil giant Pertamina, clarified issues about the elimination of Premium gasoline in 2021, especially in Java, Madura, and Bali.

“What I heard from the meetings with the board of directors, there is no plan to remove Premium,” Ahok told Tempo on Thursday, November 19, 2020.

He said that the company was planning to intensify the Langit Biru or Blue Sky Program. People can choose to keep using Premium which is not environmentally friendly or switch to Pertalite or Pertamax.

The former Jakarta governor acknowledged that many people deemed the price of Pertamax costly, while in fact, the gasoline is more efficient in use and protects the engine to last longer. “For us who usually use vehicles, Pertamax is good because it is more efficient with perfect combustion,” he added.

According to him, the company would keep encouraging the public to use environmentally friendly and economical gasoline by providing discounts and promotions, including ones available via My Pertamina application.

On Friday, November 13, 2020, the Environment and Forestry (ESDM) Ministry’s Director General of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control, RM Karliansyah, said in a virtual discussion that Pertamina would eliminate Premium gasoline in Java, Madura, and Bali as of January 1, 2021, which was in line with the government’s commitment to control air pollution from motorized vehicles.
