House Legislator Laments Mandatory PCR Test for Travelers

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – House of Representatives (DPR) health commission member Kurniasih Mufidayati on Friday commented on the air travel regulation that mandates the use of PCR tests. She argued that it is a major burden for the general public, irrespective of the recently slashed price cap.

“Even though the cost has been lowered, the regulation overseeing PCR tests as a requirement for traveling is truly burdensome for the people,” said Mufida in a statement on Friday, October 29.

Her other concern regarding this testing method is that not every region in Indonesia is equipped with quick health infrastructures to quickly process the PCR tests.

“PCR needs a longer time to produce a result. The droplet sample is taken at the time of the test, and when a person travels for another two days, for example, would that test result remain accurate,” said the PKS faction legislator.

As a solution, she urged the government to aggressively accelerate its Covid-19 vaccination program and review its mandatory PCR travel requirement as people’s economy has yet to fully recover from the pandemic restrictions.
