Govt Limits Gatherings at Public Areas to 50 People on Christmas

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The government decided to limit the number of people gathering at public spaces to 50 at maximum in an effort to curb COVID-19 infections during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“There is no closure policy, but we are tightening the restrictions on public spaces,” said Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian in a virtual press conference related to year-end holidays, Tuesday, December 21.

Tito explained the provision is noted in the Home Affairs Ministerial Instruction No. 66 of 2021 concerning the ban of gatherings of more than 50 people from December 24, 2021, until January 2, 2022.

To prevent virus transmission in public spaces, he added, one of the measures is by encouraging the use of the PeduliLindungi COVID-19 app.

Tito underlined that the ministry would today issue a circular for all regional heads, urging them to pass legal basis in the form of regional regulations (Perda) containing sanctions for violators of health protocols and the use of the PeduliLindungi app.
