Govt Keeps Eye on Schools To Prevent COVID-19 Spread

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin in a virtual press conference on Monday announced that face-to-face learning activities at schools are closely monitored under an active surveillance method.

“We have formed an active surveillance method in 10 percent of schools that implement physical attendance,” he said on Monday, October 4. “We will conduct an active and random surveillance.”

Following this program, he said the COVID-19 task force still found positive cases among school students in Jakarta, based on the sampling held in the capital city.

The Health Ministry has set a new rule of closing down a school for two weeks if its COVID-19 positivity rate reaches five percent and will only reopen it if conditions improve.

For schools that have a one to five percent positivity rate, the Health Ministry orders exposed students to be quarantined while others continue attending classes physically. The government hopes this will be enough to help identify cases before they grows larger.
