IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – State-owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir will explore cooperation with Tesla on the development of the electric car industry in Indonesia.

“In February, I’ll open a conversation with Tesla to develop this partnership,” Erick said in a written statement received on Saturday, January 2.

The SOEs Minister also asked state power company PLN to improve its public service and change the business strategy post the pandemic. “Gratefully, PLN is on-track and has been included in SOEs consortium for EV battery production, in collaboration with Korean and Chinese companies,” he added.

“Battery is the main component in electric car production,” the minister said.

Previously, Erick Thohir said electric car is beneficial both for the economy and the environment. This is also in line with the government’s plan to boost sustainable economic development.

Electric cars are considered to be more environmentally friendly. It produces lower emissions compared to fossil-fueled vehicles, which eventually will reduce air and noise pollutions.
