Jakarta. Indonesia reached a new milestone in daily number of coronavirus cases after adding 6,267 new cases on Sunday, the third time it broke its own daily record during the past week alone.
The country now has a total of 534,266 cases amid a dramatic surge in newly cases spurred mainly by four provinces in the most crowded island of Java.
It reported a record-equaling daily death toll of 169, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths to 16,815.
The total number of active cases also sets a new record of 71,658 or 13.4 percent of the overall cases.
Central Java
The province is the first in the Indonesian outbreak to report over 2,000 new cases of the virus in a single day.
Central Java has recorded 2,036 new cases in the last 24 hours to take its total to just below 55,000 cases. It has beaten its own daily record four times and added more than 21,000 cases this month alone.
The seven-day average in Central Java passed 1,000 for the first time since the outbreak began.
Central Java’s share in the national tally has reached 10 percent now.
The province reported 73 more deaths, the highest provincial daily death toll since the outbreak, to take its total death toll to 2,340.
The virus is spreading faster in Jakarta as well, with another 1,431 cases to take the capital city’s total to 135,762, including 2,641 deaths.
It has been averaging 1,228 cases in the last seven days, the highest among other provinces.
Jakarta has added more than 30,000 cases since November 1.
West Java reported 228 new cases, its lowest daily count since October 18, to bring its total to 51,776 cases. Just a week ago, West Java has more coronavirus cases than Central Java.
East Java is gaining pace in new transmissions, with an increase of 412 cases for a total of 61,483.
Its seven day average reached 400 for the first time since September 4. However, the weekly average remains the lowest among the four worst-affected provinces.
East Java still has the highest death toll nationwide with a total of 4,375 Covid deaths, an increase by 29 from the previous day.

Other Hotspots
Six other provinces reported three-digit numbers in the day, including South Sulawesi, Bali, East Kalimantan, Riau, Banten and West Sumatra.
South Sulawesi added 113 cases to take its total to 20,552, the fifth-largest total count nationwide.
West Sumatra returned to the sixth place by overtaking Riau after recording 273 more cases for a total of 19,949.
Neighboring Riau registered 173 new cases, bringing its total number of cases to 19,939.

East Kalimantan, in the eighth place among worst-affected provinces, registered 204 new cases to take its total to 19,505.
Riau, West Sumatra and West Kalimantan have added more than 5,100 cases each throughout the month.
Bali, the last province in the top ten, reported 109 new cases for a total of 13,790.
Banten added 151 more cases to take its total to 12,799, getting closer to the group of worst-affected provinces.
