East Java Earthquake Damages 31 Houses in Jember

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) reported that the magnitude 5.1 earthquake in Jember, East Java, had damaged 31 houses, as per data on Thursday, December 16, at 12: 26 local time.

BNPB explained that one house was severely damaged, 8 suffered medium damage, and 22 others were slightly damaged. “One Islamic boarding school and one village meting hall of Wonosari were slightly damaged,” said acting chief of data and communication center of BNPB, Abdul Muhari, in a written statement Thursday, December 16.

Five regencies affected by the quake are Ambulu, Tempurejo, Wuluhan, and Puher. The tremor was also felt in other areas in East Java until Bali.

According to Muhari, Jember disaster mitigation agency immediately came to the location to collect data and distribute aids.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that Jember was previously hit by earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on Monday, December 13, 2021. The people are urged to remain calm and vigilant and not affected by baseless information regarding the quake.
