Joe Biden Win May Shift Relations Towards Human Rights, Analysts Say

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – A researcher of international politics from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), Siswanto, on Sunday predicts that the electoral win of Joe Biden in the United States presidential election will strengthen partnerships in issues regarding human rights.

“There is a possibility that the United States will choose a ‘soft power’ partnership with Indonesia,” Siswanto said on Sunday, November 8. “Such as things regarding democracy and the role of women.”

The LIPI researcher believes that whoever the elected United States president would have been, their foreign policies will view Indonesia as a strategic partner.

Meanwhile, University of Indonesia (UI) international relations observer, Hikmahanto Juwana, suggested the government should adapt to the difference in leadership adopted by Joe Biden compared to Donald Trump.

He also advised the Indonesian government to be more transparent towards human rights issues happening in the country as he believes political candidates from Democrats would tend to pay more attention toward human rights issues in other countries.
