DPR House Majority Rejects Family Resilience Bill

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta The House of Representatives (DPR) legislation board (Baleg) has decided to stop deliberating the controversial draft family resilience bill (RUU) which was decided after five factions expressed their objection.

“With the harmonization at an end, the family resilience bill cannot be processed any further,” said the DPR Baleg chairperson, Supratman Andi Agtas in today’s meeting on November 24.

The views of each party faction within the house were initially expressed on Wednesday, November 18, but further discussions had to be postponed as the NasDem Party declared that the draft bill needs more studying. NasDem eventually declared their formal rejection against the bill in today’s hearing

A NasDem representative, Sulaeman Hamzah, further argues that the draft bill still needs to be compared to the Law No.52/2009 on family and population development as most of the substances contained in the draft bill are already mentioned in this law.

Other party factions in the DPR that reject the draft bill include PDIP, Golkar Party, the National Awakening Party (PKB), and the Democratic Party faction.
