IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Co-founder and Bike to Work (B2W) community manager, Toto Sugito, responded positively to the Ministry of Transportation’s plan to regulate bicyclists.
“I think the ministry of transportation only needs to create policies that were made by the Provincial Government or the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) regarding the pop-up bike lane into a permanent [bike lane],” said Toto to Tempo on Monday, June 29.
Toto noted that with the existence of the idnewsnowrary bike lane in the city’s major streets of Sudirman – Thamrin had effectively increased the number of bicyclists.
“It can also entice the current bicyclists to be permanent bicyclists, and not just become a fad,” said the bike to work co-founder who also said the government needs to take an example of other cyclist-friendly cities across the globe if they are indeed serious in creating a less-polluted city.
The Ministry of Transporation’s spokesperson, Adita Irawati, previously announced that there will be at least three aspects in the government regulation overseeing bicyclists which will require them to wear reflective clothing, ride on available bicycle paths, and use adequate safety gear.
