Bandung City Mayor Supports Death Penalty Against Herry Wirawan

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Bandung acting-mayor Yana Mulyana on Wednesday declared his support for the death penalty charged against Herry Wirawan, defendant of charges on rape against 13 students studying at his pesantren (Islamic boarding school).

He asserts that his support for the highest form of punishment is due to the fact that Wirawan’s crime is considered to be an extraordinary crime. “It is understandable that there is capital punishment in the charges,” said Yana in Bandung, West Java, on January 12.

“Imagine the severity of what ‘HW’ committed. We put our children under his care but suddenly he treats them improperly. Can you imagine what their parents feel?” Yana added.

The West Java High Prosecutor Office officially charged Herry Wirawan the death penalty for committing the heinous crime of raping 13 of his own students. Prosecutors also charge him with chemical castration and compensate dozens of his victims.
