AP II Expands to Retail and Event Business in Airports

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) started exploring its second business transformation in 2020-2024. It planned to develop the airport business ecosystem, create a new business model, and seek opportunities.

“We must be able to liven up the airport business ecosystem, for example, expanding to food and beverage retail, airport events, edutainment, up to hospitality, health, and learning sector,” said Angkasa Pura II President Director, Muhammad Awaluddin, in his statement on Friday, November 20, 2020.

Awaluddin explained that his firm would also create digital ecosystem services by launching an e-payment system while applying a special strategy to broaden the market of its core business of aeronautics and non-aeronautics.

The company further planned to optimize asset utilization, such as by using vacant spots to create new income and welcome cooperation with international networks for airport hotel management.

In the 2016-2020 period, Angkasa Pura II developed business portfolios, infrastructure and operating systems, and human resources. “In 2016, we formed two subsidiaries, PT Angkasa Pura Kargo and PT Angkasa Pura Propertindo, following the existing one namely PT Angkasa Pura Solusi,” said Awaluddin.

AP II also formed PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi and increased share ownership in the ground handling company PT Gapura Angkasa. Reportedly, through the optimization of the subsidiary, the company’s non-aeronautical business revenue in 2019 contributed up to 59 percent of total revenue.
