9 Resident Physicians Treated for COVID-19 in Surabaya Hospital

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – The Dr. Soetomo Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Surabaya, East Java, is currently treating nine resident physicians of the hospital’s specialist medical education program (PPDS) who were infected with COVID-19 while they were stationed at the hospital. 

Nine of the doctors are part of the 41 doctors that have been tested positive for coronavirus. 

The RSUD Dr. Soetomo director, Joni Wahyudi, said that many of the PPDS participants have successfully recovered from the virus and some have been sent home. 

“Others have actually been sent home [after recovering] and tonight we are treating the nine people,” said Joni Wahyudi to Tempo on late Monday. 

Based on the swab test documents Tempo received, 41 Airlangga University resident physicians stationed at the hospital had indeed been confirmed positive. Others were deemed negative for COVID-19 after follow-up swab tests. 

Meanwhile, one physician in the medical education program named Dr. Miftah Fawzy Sarengat, unfortunately, died on June 10, 2020, due to the coronavirus.
