8,000 Joint Officers to Secure Jakarta’s Year-end Activities

IDNEWSNOW.COM, Jakarta – Around 8,000 personnel from the police, military, and Jakarta administration have been prepared for the 2021 Lilin Jaya Operation from December 24, 2021, to January 2, 2022, an official informed on Tuesday.

One of the aims of the operation is to ensure the security of the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

“For this year’s security of Christmas and New Year activities, the joint personnel of the Jakarta Police and City’s Regional Military Command and the Jakarta administration amounting to eight thousand personnel (will be deployed),” public relations head for Jakarta Police, Chief Commissioner Endra Zulpan, informed on Tuesday.

The officers will be deployed across locations that can potentially attract crowds during Christmas and New Year celebrations, including churches, shopping centers, and recreation areas, he said.

The joint personnel will also oversee the implementation of restrictions on the operating hours of several types of businesses such as entertainment venues and malls, which will be allowed to stay open till 10 p.m. local time during the operation, he added.

“So, after 10: 00 p.m., there will be a clearing by the joint officers. So, it is expected that at midnight, there will be no more crowds,” Zulpan said.

The National Police (Polri) will deploy 44,582 personnel to secure several churches during the operation, he informed.

“There are 44,582 police officers to be deployed to carry out security in churches,” operations assistant of Police chief, Inspector General Imam Sugianto, said.

The police personnel will be assigned to guard churches in the country that will hold Christmas Mass and New Year’s Mass, he added.

“Some 30,761 personnel will be stationed in Protestant churches and 13,821 personnel in Catholic churches,” he revealed.

The National Police will also perform church sterilization before and after Christmas and New Year’s Mass, he said.

Moreover, Polri will assign personnel to secure crowded centers during the holiday season, such as shopping centers and tourist sites, he added.

“There will be 3,956 personnel guarding shopping centers and 6,397 personnel at tourist attractions,” Sugianto said.
